THE MUSICAL MISSION STATEMENT
At the center of a life in the Thomanerchor is, of course, the collaborative music and its regular performance in the St. Thomas Church. One of the core tasks of the THOMANERCHOR Leipzig is to perform the motets, a musical form of worship, in St. Thomas Church on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons, as well as the Sunday service. The preparations, which also include a Bach cantata on Saturday, determine a large part of everyday life. The young singers share and appreciate the wonderful feeling of moving more than 2,000 people with their music every week in the packed St. Thomas Church together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, vocal soloists and the organist.
and the St. Thomas organist to move more than 2000 people a week with their music in the packed St. Thomas Church.
The choir performs church music in St. Thomas Church on high church holidays and also sets widely acclaimed standards with its annual performances of Bach’s Passions, the Christmas Oratorio and the Mass in B minor. The performances of the Thomanerchor are also an important part of the annual Leipzig Bach Festival.
The Thomanerchor Leipzig regularly travels to renowned concert venues. The Thomanerchor inspires audiences regionally, nationwide and all over the world with the diversity of their program,
from Gregorian chant to modern music, as well as with their brilliantly differentiated transparency of Bach’s work. This makes them a welcome and highly respected guest in international music centers.
Through numerous audiovisual and other media productions, the Thomanerchor can be experienced beyond the concert hall.

Faith – Singing – Learning
For over 800 years, the Trias Thomana has united the three culturally and historically outstanding institutions of St. Thomas Church, the THOMANERCHOR Leipzig and St. Thomas School. Despite many social upheavals and changes, this triumvirate is still held together and supported by its original tasks to this day, true to the motto “Faith – Singing – Learning”.
“Singing together is a resounding proclamation.” The words of the Christian message through music are touching in a special way. The sound of the Thomanerchor expands the sense of a dimension that goes beyond everyday experience. The unity of word and music characterizes the motets in St. Thomas Church in a special way. “The performances always offer new and profound experiences for everyone involved and the audience,” says Thomaskantor Andreas Reize.
